STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Dr. Selma Bartholomew is one of 11 candidates vying for the Democratic Party nominee in New York City’s upcoming mayoral primary.
“I am an outlier, who confidently harnesses my talents to tackle deep-rooted societal and historical challenges with innovative solutions. As a Black businesswoman, leader, policymaker, mathematician, physicist, educator, change agent, and community builder with more than 30 years of experience, I’ve never fit in the box—nor do I see one," according to her campaign website.
Bartholomew founded her company, PartnerWithLegacy, in 2008, since working with more than 200 schools and districts around the country to improve educational outcomes.
Policy priorities listed on her campaign website include restoring public safety, improving quality of life, cleaning up the city, bolstering eduction, addressing the ongoing housing crisis, providing mental health care for New Yorkers experiencing homelessness and more.
“Whether it’s sanitation, mental health providers, education, housing programs, economic opportunities — we all need to think in new ways. The old ways don’t work. We need to think with compassion, innovation, and EDUCATION. We need a comprehensive roadmap, aligning funding with needs and celebrations that runs across all boroughs," according to her campaign website.
The Advance/SILive.com sent a candidate questionnaire covering various issues to all 11 candidates in the Democratic primary to learn their plans for Staten Island should they be elected in November.
The Bartholomew campaign did not respond to the questionnaire by the time of publication.
