The cause of death for George Wendt, who played fan-favorite Norm on the hit sitcom “Cheers,” was revealed by authorities in Los Angeles, California, according to media reports.

Wendt died on May 20 of cardiac arrest after suffering from a number of health issues, according to his death certificate issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health as reported by TMZ.

Many of the health conditions suffered by the 76-year-old native of Chicago, Illinois, were linked to his cardiovascular system. Congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, hypertension, high cholesterol and kidney failure were among the conditions that contributed to his demise at home, according to TMZ.

“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” Wendt’s family said in a statement in the immediate aftermath of his death. “He will be missed forever.”

Wendt spent six years as part of Chicago’s Second City improv troupe before settling into his barstool at the place “where everybody knows your name.”
