STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — St. Peter’s Boys High School held its 108th commencement exercise Friday, recognizing 99 students.
The commencement ceremony, held in the auditorium of the New Brighton school, emphasized several themes including: A sense of brotherhood; faith and service; and the power of kindness.
Salutatorian Anthony Macaluso thanked Senior Guidance Director, Frank Cafaro for the countless early mornings and late nights spent helping the students, and for extending kindness that truly made a difference. He also remarked on the sense of family and brotherhood formed during his four years at St. Peter’s. “Being part of sports was not only about playing on the field or court. It was also about being there for one another, like being a part of the 12th man at a football game or sixth man cheering court side at a basketball game. We were always there because we care about one another.”
Valedictorian Alex Vargas shared similar sentiments “coming here and meeting our classmates, friends, and faculty, we didn’t just join a school—we became a family... When teachers, students or anyone struggle, the faculty, parents and students come together; always step up and exemplify the faith of the Lasallian creed."
Principal Michael Cosentino reminded the graduates of the words of author, poet and activist Maya Angelou: “I have learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." He reminded the graduates to go forth and remember their brothers.
