STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Heavy delays were reported on the Staten Island Expressway during the rainstorm on Wednesday morning.
A crash was cleared after it was reported past Slosson Avenue on the Brooklyn-bound Staten Island Expressway around 9 a.m., according to Google Maps.
Traffic was snarled, with stop-and-go traffic on the expressway, Brooklyn bound, between the exchange for the West Shore Expressway and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge around 9:30 a.m.
The West Shore Expressway toward the Staten Island Expressway was also clogged, especially between Clay Pit Road and Rossville Avenue, according to Google Maps.
Congestion began to build at the start of the morning rush hour.
The Goethals Bridge to New York had delays shortly after 6 a.m. due to congestion on the Staten Island Expressway, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Precipitation was likely contributing to the traffic woes.
Rain is forecast throughout the day and into the night on Staten Island and throughout the rest of New York City.

Thunderstorms could strike throughout the region with winds blowing steadily from 14 to 16 mph and gusts up to 29 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Regionally, rainfall could total between a half-inch or three-quarters of an inch, according to the National Weather Service.
