STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A car crashed into a utility pole next to a bus stop near a major intersection in Great Kills on Tuesday morning.
The crash, which was reported at 9:32 a.m. at Hylan Boulevard and Keegans Lane, sent two people to Staten Island University Hospital in Prince’s Bay, according to a spokesperson for the FDNY/EMS.
The front of a Lexus SUV was smashed against a utility pole, which was leaning precariously over the bus lane on Hylan Boulevard heading toward Bay Terrace. An orange Hyundai sedan with its hood raised had extensive front-end damage. The sedan was located in the bus lane behind the SUV.
A source at the scene said that it was a three-car accident that included a second sedan that had been removed from the location.
The crash site was next to a bus stop. A pole that held signs indicating which express buses stopped there fell to the ground during the crash. The signs were scattered on the sidewalk and glass shards littered the concrete and the bus lane.
Conditions for the injured were not available from the FDNY spokesman, but a source at the scene said that nobody was seriously hurt.
Con Edison was on the scene.
