STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A firefighter and a civilian were taken to the hospital from a two-alarm fire at a home on a major street in Stapleton on Tuesday morning.
Notify NYC warned about “traffic delays, road closures and a heavy presence of emergency personnel in the area of Targee Street and Broad Street in Staten Island.
“Consider alternate routes and allow for additional travel time.”
The fire was reported at 7:18 a.m. at 203 Targee St. between Broad and Young streets, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.
An FDNY member whose condition was not disclosed was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze. A civilian with minor injuries was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, the FDNY spokesman said.
Authorities believe that the fire started on the second floor of the two-story, 20-by-40-foot home, the FDNY spokesman said.
Flames were shooting through the roof of the multi-family home, according to a source at the scene.
About 25 units and 106 fire and EMS personnel brought the blaze under control at 8:56 a.m., according to the FDNY spokesman.
Fire Marshals are investigating to determine the cause of the blaze.
Windows were busted on the second story of the frame home with ladders leading to some of those openings. Firefighters were seen on the roof where ladders and a bucket were extended. Some of the exterior siding had melted.
This is a developing story and more information will be posted when it becomes available.
