STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On a picture-perfect Saturday afternoon at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park, the Staten Island FerryHawks defeated the Gastonia Ghost Peppers, 4–3, in the middle game of a three-game set.
Left-hander Christian Allegretti took the mound for Staten Island (11-9), entering the game with a 5.40 ERA. After a rocky second inning in which Gastonia pushed across a run and threatened with two in scoring position, Allegretti settled in. He retired the next nine batters he faced and wrapped up his outing with five solid innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three.
