McMahon’s excuses regarding park road are malarkey (letter to the editor)

(Thursday’s) article regarding Mr. McMahon’s update of his attempts to close Silver Lake Road on weekends is all window dressing. He was able to open the road by snapping his fingers, but now to close the road he’s got to move a mountain. He’s taking heat from his constituents and he’s doing the dance.

Mr. McMahon said improving lightening, design changes, etc. were capital expenditures which weren’t in the budget. More malarkey.

Maybe what he should work on is merging Silver Lake with Central Park (in concept).

They closed all Central Park roads to use as pedestrian and bike paths, which is great for tourism and Manhattanites, and I’m confident they have a capital budget to maintain Central Park at world class level.

Silver Lake is an eyesore. Benches and railings throughout the park aren’t painted or maintained. Lawn care is haphazard. One section is mowed, and the rest of the park doesn’t get mowed and “goes to seed,” which is not good.

Upper park is not maintained.

Silver Lake is Staten Island’s Central Park. Silver Lake is a hidden gem.

Mr. McMahon and company can correct their misguided opening of Silver Lake Road by going all-in to close the road immediately and ensure, no, demand, maintenance is done PDQ. Bring people to the park to minimize unfortunate events.

Stop show horsing for the sound bite.
