STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Several brands of nasal and teething swabs are being recalled for possible microbial contamination, according to a notice by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Church & Dwight Co., Inc. is recalling lots of Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs; Zicam Nasal AllClear Swabs; and Orajel Baby Teething Swabs due to possible contamination.
The products are being recalled due to potential microbial contamination identified as fungi in cotton swab components.
This recall covers only the following lots:
- Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, with UPC 732216301205, all lots.
- Zicam Nasal AllClear Swabs, with UPC 732216301656, all lots. This product was discontinued in December 2024.
- Orajel Baby Teething Swabs, with UPC 310310400002, all lots.
Swabs found to contain microbial contamination can potentially present a significant health and safety risk to consumers, including serious and life-threatening blood infections in users whose nasal mucosa may be compromised due to inflammation and mechanical injuries.
To date, Church & Dwight Co. has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall.
The recalled products were distributed nationwide in the United States and in Puerto Rico.
Consumers that have purchased the product listed should stop use immediately. Consumers should call Church & Dwight Co. Consumer Relations team at 800-981-4710, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for a full refund.
