STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police arrested two boys, ages 14 and 15, in connection with an alleged robbery of a moped in Eltingville.
Officers searched a wooded area in Annadale Wednesday evening as part of an investigation.
The incident allegedly occurred in the 100 block of Lyndale Avenue between Sycamore street and Koch Boulevard at about 5:33 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
A 15-year-old boy told police that two unknown individuals brandished what appeared to be a firearm and stole his moped, according to the police spokeswoman.
No injuries were reported in the incident where the individuals fled from the location, according to police spokeswoman.
After a brief canvass on the South Shore, the two suspects were taken into custody, according to the police spokeswoman.
Police charged the suspects with robbery, menacing, unauthorized use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent, reckless driving, a violation of no license and operator leaves scene from property damage.
The NYPD does not release the names of minors.
Dramatic search in Annadale
A helicopter whirled overhead as officers searched the woods in Annadale. A “level-one” mobilization was called in connection with the alleged robbery, according to emergency radio communications.
Officers were spotted searching wooded areas in various locations, including along Amboy Road between Barclay Avenue and Winslow Place.
There were multiple ESU units on scene and dogs were sent into the woods.
One of the suspects was being chased by a police car when he was captured on video crashing the moped at the dead end of Winslow. He hopped a metal barricade and then entered the woods.
Nearly two hours after the incident occurred, officers brought what appeared to be a teen in handcuffs out of the woods on Sycamore Street around 7:20 p.m.
