STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Twenty-nine Staten Island Academy seniors celebrated their senior prom — dubbed the Geranium Ball — in unique style at the Richmond County Country Club on Saturday evening, bedecked in their best finery, ready to dance the night away.
“While it is true that Geranium Ball is the Academy’s prom, it is more than just a prom. It is a community celebration of the graduating seniors attended by parents, siblings, faculty and staff and friends,” said Michael A. Acquilano, the school’s Assistant Head of Upper School & Director of College Guidance. It is certainly unique as proms go, as the tradition dates back to 1965. “Along with Commencement, it is one of our most cherished culminating events of the year,” he added.
The first Geranium Ball was held in 1965 and has continued on as a grand celebration to recognize graduating seniors.
GRAND ENTRANCE
The ladies were dressed to the nines in their best silks, satins and sequin floor length gowns and their escorts donned tailored tuxes with color-coordinated bow ties and boutonnieres.
BEST DRESSED
Earning the coveted title of SiLive.com’s “Best Dressed’ were Mary Ten’s beautiful gown perfectly paired with Tom Guo’s classic style tux.
