Staten Island HS baseball: Iona Prep ousts Sea in CHSAA Intersectionals

QUEENS, N.Y. -- St. Joseph by-the-Sea won’t get the chance to win the school’s second CHSAA Intersectional crown as the Vikings suffered a 7-1 loss to Iona Prep in a losers’ bracket game Wednesday at St. John’s University.

Th Vikings, who showed up at St. John’s minus several seniors because of prom commitments, claimed the CHSAA Archdiocesan championship last week and were seeded first in the Intersectionals but lost to No. 5 St. Peter’s last Sunday and now to the No. 3 seed after staying alive on Tuesday vs. St. Francis Prep.

Head coach Nelson Ortiz’s club finished the season with a 20-5 overall mark.
