STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — HBO announced additional cast members for the upcoming “Harry Potter” television series on Monday, with “The King of Staten Island” actress Bel Powley starring as Petunia Dursley, Harry Potter’s magic-hating aunt.
Daniel Rigby (“Eric and Ernie”) will portray Vernon Dursley, Petunia’s husband and Harry’s equally magic-averse uncle.
Additional actors announced this week include Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
The series, written by Francesca Gardiner, is an adaptation of the popular Harry Potter books by author J.K. Rowling and will stream exclusively on HBO Max in current and future markets, though no premiere date has been announced yet.
Mark Mylod (“The Menu”) will executive produce and direct multiple episodes in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
Other executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
Powley is perhaps best known to audiences for her role as Kelsey in 2020’s “The King of Staten Island,” where she played a local girl involved in a casual relationship with Pete Davidson’s character Scott.
The R-rated movie — loosely based on Davidson’s Island upbringing — was co-written by Judd Apatow, Davidson and former “Saturday Night Live” writer Dave Sirus.
Throughout 2019, the movie filmed at various locations throughout borough, including the Staten Island Ferry, the Richmond County Bank Ballpark in St. George, Ralph’s Famous Ices, Denino’s Pizzeria & Tavern, Rosebank Pizza and a home on Lake Avenue in Mariners Harbor.
