Multiple varieties of salsa and packaged cucumbers sold in New Jersey and four other states have been recalled over concerns they might be contaminated with salmonella, according to an emergency notification issued Thursday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The packages of salsa and cucumbers are being recalled by TGD Cuts, LLC., and consumers who purchased the items are urged to discard them, the agency noted. The company initiated the warning because these products contain a recalled cucumber ingredient grown by Bedner Growers Inc., of Boynton Beach, Florida.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems.
An otherwise healthy person infected with salmonella will often experience fever, diarrhea that could include blood, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare instances, the organism can enter the bloodstream and cause more serious conditions such as arterial infections.
No illnesses had been reported as of Thursday, according to the FDA.
The products are beyond their usable shelf life and are not expected to be in stores.
The eight store-made products were distributed to retail and foodservice locations in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
Visit the Food and Drug Administration’s website for the full list of recalled items.
Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For more information, contact the company at (410)-799-5700 Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
