STATEN ISLAND, N.Y — The Filipino-American community of Staten Island is gearing up for one of its most anticipated cultural events of the year—the third annual Filipino Fiesta, hosted by the Philippine Independence Committee of Staten Island.

The celebration will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Sacred Heart School at 950 Castleton Ave., West Brighton.

In true Filipino spirit, the event blends fun, food and faith in a joyful and welcoming atmosphere. The event is free and open to the public.

With more than a thousand people expected to attend, this year’s fiesta promises to be bigger, livelier and more festive than ever, according to Rev. Rhey Garcia, pastor of Sacred Heart Church.

The day will begin with a morning Mass at Sacred Heart Church at 10:30 a.m., an appropriate start to the deep faith that is central to Filipino life.

After the Mass, the campus will transform into a vibrant hub of culture, community, and entertainment.

Guests will be welcomed by the enticing aroma of traditional Filipino dishes prepared by food vendors traveling in from across the tri-state area.

FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT

Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of performances throughout the afternoon, including music, dance, and cultural showcases that reflect the rich artistic heritage of the Philippines.

The Filipino Fiesta is a family-friendly event, offering a wide range of activities for all ages. Children and adults alike will enjoy basketball and volleyball games, traditional Filipino party games, shopping with local vendors, and even a newly added highlight for 2025: a community karaoke contest.

Behind the scenes, the success of the fiesta is made possible by a dedicated group of volunteers and the generous contributions of sponsors.

Last year, community support helped offset major costs such as equipment rentals, insurance, promotional materials, and supplies.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

Founded in the winter of 2022, Philippine Independence Committee of Staten Island began with a simple but powerful idea: to create an annual event where Filipino residents from all walks of life could come together in unity and pride.

What started as a conversation among community members quickly evolved into a full-scale cultural celebration.

The officers of the group are Ederlinda Miranda (President), Krizel Mendoza (Vice President), Christopher Bejar (Secretary), and Maricel Peralta (Treasurer), with the support of dedicated organizers.

The Board of Directors includes Fr. Rhey Garcia (Chair), Dr. Lorna Avila, Larry Balagtas, Enrico Bawar, Tita Imperial, and Lourdes Panlilio.

The Philippine Independence Committee of Staten Island organizing committee consists of Filipino-American community leaders throughout Staten Island. Over many months, this group has dedicated several hours planning and promoting this momentous occasion.

The inaugural event in June 2023 was a resounding success, drawing wide community support and establishing what has now become a beloved local tradition.
