STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Driving on Hylan Boulevard during the evening rush hour is a dreaded task.
Advance/SILive.com reporter Erik Bascome did just that — making five back-to-back trips, in fact — one recent Friday afternoon.
Fellow reporters Shaina McLawrence, Luke Peteley and Mike Matteo, meanwhile, were positioned at key hotspots on the infamously congested thoroughfare.
Their assignment was to chronicle the rush hour build-up and ascertain when traffic was at its worst for motorists.
What they found was a little surprising.
They discuss the experience in the video podcast below.
It was part of the team’s “Staten Island Traffic SOS” project examining the state of safety, traffic and civility (or the lack thereof) on borough streets.
