The Seattle, Washington home of rapper Macklemore was robbed Saturday by a pair of masked men who police say sprayed a woman at the home with bear mace, NBC News reported.
Police responded to the home just before 1 a.m. Saturday, June 7, after receiving a call from a woman who identified herself as a nanny, the NBC report said.
According to the outlet, the woman told arriving officers that she had been able to get out of the home, but that three children remained inside as two men entered the premises and “took numerous watches, jewelry items and shoes that they put into bags” from the home’s main bedroom.
She described the men as having black clothing, vests and tactical gloves. She also told officers one of the men ordered the other to “spray her” and explained that the same individual inexplicably tried helping her clean the mace out of her eyes and appeared “fearful.”
The woman stated that at one point, one of the men threw her to the ground before putting a boot on the back of her neck and taking her phone, police said.
She went on to tell police that when she began to scream, one of the men put his hand over her mouth and she was able to bite him before running from the home and knocking on neighbors’ doors to call 911.
The report did not say if Macklemore, 41, whose real name is Benjamin Haggerty, was home at the time of the incident, as he was scheduled to perform in Ireland on June 4 and 5.
The children were unhurt during the incident and family eventually arrived to remove them from the home, the NBC report said.
Macklemore gained international fame alongside producer Ryan Lewis when their 2013 song “Thrift Shop” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The pair went on to win four Grammy awards the following year.
