Staten Island man, 33, faces rape, menacing charges in 73-count indictment shocker

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 33-year-old man from Dongan Hills faces charges he physically and sexually assaulted a woman in connection with a disturbing 73-count indictment.

Court documents allege that Vincent Capasso of Dongan Hills Avenue in the Berry Houses apartment complex entered the woman’s home on multiple occasions this year without her permission.

In one incident, court documents allege that Capasso grabbed the woman’s phone and threw it, shattering the screen, while she was attempting to call 911. He allegedly snatched her purse from her hands, broke the strap and tossed the handbag away from her.

He slapped her in the face, bit her back, then pushed her onto a couch where he raped her, court filings allege.

She repeatedly tried to escape, but he prevented her from leaving the location, according to prosecutors.

In a second attack, Capasso entered the woman’s home, broke a broom and pointed the sharp end of the handle in her direction, prosecutors allege.

“I’m going to kill you,” the court documents quote Capasso as saying.

In a third assault, Capasso allegedly found his way into the woman’s home, grabbed her arm and bit her on the face.

The woman was previously known to the defendant.

The defendant has been indicted on charges of burglary, rape, sexual abuse, criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated criminal contempt, aggravated family offense, aggravated harassment, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, criminal trespass, sexual misconduct, forcible touching, assault, criminal contempt, criminal mischief and unlawful imprisonment.

Capasso, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs about 150 pounds, is being held at Rikers Island in lieu of bail set at $1.5 million bond/$500,000 cash. He is due to be arraigned in state Supreme Court in St. George on Wednesday, according to public records.

Capasso, whose name also is spelled Caposso in public records, was convicted in April 2021 of aggravated criminal contempt in Supreme Court in St. George, according to court documents.

Attorney Michael Vitaliano, who is defending Capasso, declined to comment at this time.

Accused of alleged $3.5K in shoplifting

In a separate criminal complaint, Capasso is accused of stealing over $3,500 worth of merchandise while shoplifting on 11 occasions between October and January at the Marshalls store at 2656 Hylan Blvd. in New Dorp.

The defendant pilfered a variety of merchandise, including men’s jackets and footwear, bedding, a children’s toy, socks, a beauty item and duffle bags, the complaint alleges.

He was charged in that case with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is due to appear in Criminal Court on June 17, according to public records.
